| The distilling tradition of the Domenis
family goes back in the mists of time of the Natisone Valleys,
back to the times of Venice. The Domenis family emigrated from these
valleys in 1898 to Cividale del Friuli. Here they continued their
activity applying their distilling technology to all the raw material
available, grapes included, following the secret traditional methods
belonging to their family, obtaining a distillate that in those
days was already called Storica in order to distinguish it from
other similar products.
Therefore, all the way to year 1951, when a pertinent decree (law
1559/51) codified the denomination of ‘grappa’, as a
distilled spirit made only from marc, and the various fruit distillates,
which intentionally excluded distillates coming from grapes.
The distilling procedures were maintained throughout the years,
according to the family’s methods, developing and personalizing
the technological innovations that came into view, and applying
at best the greater knowledges regarding the productive processes
and also regarding the raw materials that were being utilized.
Thus in 1986, after 20 years of enhancements in the productive
procedures, Storica was born, a young
grappa in which the distillery found a perfect blend between alcoholic
volume (50%), aromas, fragrances, and organoleptic harmony.
In 1993, there was a revisitation in the production of grape brandy,
which was prohibited during the 50s and was re-introduced by law
only in 1984. Many years were necessary to refine the technique,
which was set aside for some decades, and the plants had to be readjusted
in order for the new product to be distilled.
The year 1998 was the first finishing line of a century old activity.
For this grand occasion Secolo was
born, a 60% vol grappa, having an alcoholic volume that Pietro Domenis,
the founder, was able to reach with great mastery with his simple
distilling plant.
In the year 1998, the company started talking about Triptych
of grappas, as a new custom for grappa tasting. This also was the
year of niche products. Therefore, the company was certified to
obtain grappa by distilling grape marc that derived from organic
agriculture. The same year kosher
products were created, following the regulations of the Jewish religion.
Recently, we have opened the doors for new ways and moments of high-quality grappa consumption, with the
proposal of 5 ml single-dose pocket-size Storica.
